Top 5 Tips for Email Etiquette

When sending a professional email, there are many things to consider. It’s not as simple as composing and pressing send.  Is the email really ready to send?  Is everything spelled correctly?  Did you use all caps? Will the recipient understand what you are trying to convey?  Follow these tips below to help ensure your email etiquette is up to par.

1. Address your email.
Don’t forget to address your email recipient by name at the beginning. This tells the reader that you know who they are and that the message is for them. Also make sure you spell their name correctly. This can be an easy but fatal error to make.

2. Get to the Point. Keep it short.
It may seem nice to make chit-chat in the beginning of the email talking about your personal lives, but in reality most people who are working are busy. There’s no need to take up more of their time discussing yesterday’s football game. Get straight to the point of why you are sending the email.

3. Spell Correctly.
Along with spelling their name correctly, make sure you don’t have any spelling errors throughout your email. Read it through at least once before actually hitting the send button. Remember spell check doesn’t always catch grammatical errors.

4. Write a proper subject field.
Be sure the subject field reflects the message in the email. This makes it easier to search later if your recipient wants to find the email again.

5. Signing off.
When adding your signature, make sure the recipient knows who you are. You may need to add a line for what company you work for or your job title if you’ve never emailed this person before.

Office Design Trends for 2016

Time really does fly; 2016 is officially upon us! With the changing of the new year comes the excitement of changes in office design. In 2015, we saw a focus on open work spaces and integrated technology. For 2016, here are some of our predictions about new office design trends.

Hidden Cables

It's a technology-filled world and electronics surround us at the office. Every device seems to have an accompanying charging cable or wire, and those can lead to a very disorganized look. In 2016, be on the lookout for wires to be more hidden and an overall more clean looking workstation.

Bringing the Outdoors In

Many offices are becoming more modern in style, as well as trending towards bringing the outside indoors to our work areas. With nature in mind, we should look for designs such as vertical gardens, exposed concrete flooring, and reclaimed wood paneling. A more homely feel will  make employees feel comfortable and reduce the urge to get fresh air outside.

Designated Lounge Areas

Collaboration is on the rise, and one way to foster that in 2016 is with designated lounge areas at work. These spaces cater to the open concept and allow maximum comfort and idea sharing between all employees. We often spend so much time at work that it's imperative for employees to feel comfortable, and innovative lounge areas help make for a more enjoyable office experience.

3 Tips for the Office Holiday Party

Ah, the office holiday party season is upon us! Attending our company's holiday party can be exciting, but it can also be a source of anxiety for some. Simple questions can become confusing, such as: What do we wear? Who should we talk to? What should we do at the party? Have no fear, here are three tips to help make a merry time at this year's holiday party.

Dress Code

Knowing what to wear to an office holiday party ahead of time can help alleviate those concerns. The holiday season is a special time of year and often lends to elegant celebrations, so we may want to dress a little more formal than other events. If the party takes place during the daytime, however, less formal dress is probably appropriate. It helps to know the nature of the event so we aren't surprised to see everyone wearing ugly sweaters!

The More the Merrier!

Many office holiday parties are meant to be inclusive, in which case we should bring our significant others and/or families along with us. On the other hand, these parties offer an excellent opportunity to meet new people, so we should try to break out of our comfort zone and talk to others that we normally wouldn't get a chance to. We should set a goal for the number of new people we want to talk to, but we also should be conscious of the guests we bring along and make sure that they have fun and feel included.

Have Fun, but Be Mindful

The office holiday party is meant to be fun, so we should make sure to enjoy ourselves while maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism. Many office parties include activities like a dress-up photo booth or karaoke, in which case employees should have fun participating in these social activities. It's important to be mindful of any alcohol we consume, and coordinate a safe ride home for ourselves and our guests. It also helps to be mindful of sharing photos on social media, and share only those that would be appropriate for the company's image.

Does your company do anything exciting for its annual holiday party? We would love to hear about it!

Holiday Toy Drive for the Mile High United Way

part1

EON is excited to help collect toys for the Mile High United Way's annual Children's Holiday Party.

The United Way is collecting toys for ages 0-12 in support of 11 agencies here in the community, which all reach out to families in great need during the holiday time. These families attend the Children's Holiday Party, where children participate in face painting, cookie decorating, crafts, activities, and a visit from Santa, while their parents are able to choose the perfect gift for their child. For many children, this will be the only toy they receive. Families leave the party with a weight lifted from their shoulders and joy on the children’s faces.

This event provides over 300 families with the only gifts they can put under the tree. If you would like to donate an unwrapped toy valued at a minimum of $15, please contact your EON representative or Customer Service at 720-570-5400. Toys must be collected by Wednesday, December 9th. Thank you for your support!
