The best ways to organize your desk

desk blog image 5

  1. Start with an empty space. Clear everything off your desk. This will make it easier to envision where everything will go.
  2. Revise your file storage. Most papers can be stored electronically. Decide which papers are absolutely necessary to keep, and which ones you can scan in and save on your hard drive. Then put the remaining papers in a cabinet or drawer.
  3. Choose your proximity. What accessories do you use most often? Keep those on your desk. The rest can be managed into a drawer. Try to minimize supplies on your desk. It takes up room and clutters.
  4. Embrace white space. Have an area on your desk that is designated for reviewing and signing documents.
  5. Only keep 3 personal items on your desk to avoid distractions.   Combine photos in a larger frame if need be. This will limit the amount of distractions on your desk.

American Red Cross Heroes Soiree

EON is the proud Social Media Sponsor of the American Red Cross Heroes Soiree in Denver on February 26th. Guests of the Soiree will be inspired by the stories of local heroes, and honor responders to disasters. Support of the event will help the Red Cross to:

  • Respond to more than a disaster a day in Colorado
  • Prevent deaths and injuries through preparedness and training
  • Support local members of the military and their families
  • Reconnect families separated by conflict and disaster

Creating a Collaborative Office Space

Collaborative workspaces reflect a design trend that has been around for quite a while. The goal is to create an environment that encourages team involvement, and for colleagues to share information within a common space.  More and more companies are seeing the added benefit of collaboration within the workplace.

Here are some key tips in making your office more collaborative.

  • Open Spaces. Keep your floorplan open and clean. Take down the cubicle walls and bring desks closer together. This will encourage interactions between employees which can be great for brainstorming.
  • More common areas. Provide multiple break rooms for employees to get away from their desks. Add more huddle rooms and casual meeting spaces for small groups to gather.
  • Different work spaces for different work situations. Some spaces may require whiteboards or projectors. Offer a few options where employees can gather with the tools they need to be successful.
  • Mobility. Encourage employees to switch desks on a regular basis to help build strong networks between people and projects.
  • Communication. Share with employees the benefits of having a collaborative environment. Some may feel it’s a way to monitor them. Make sure employees understand the purpose is to help inspire new ideas and nurture a strong company culture.

Rose Quartz and Serenity for the Office

“Sophisticated and glamorous, yet earthy and organic. Warm, and universally appealing. Dramatic in an unexpected way. Full-bodied and fulfilling.” This is how the LA Showroom describes the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year, Marsala. Yes, Marsala is the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year, and we’d like to offer some ways to integrate it into your office life.

First, you might be wondering: what exactly is the color Marsala? It’s depicted below, and can be best described as a red and brown shade mix. Here are three ways you can represent this color well around the office.

Fashion

Marsala was selected as the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year because of its versatility in appealing to a multitude of ages, genders, and lifestyles. What better way to support the color at your office than by wearing it? Women can sport this color in a variety of ways, from boots or a scarf to a sharp-looking dress. Men can also integrate Marsala into fashion by wearing it in a tie, polo shirt or a button-down to the office.

Business

While you look great wearing Marsala, your company can also stand out with this premier Pantone color. Try integrating the color Marsala into your next presentation or report. The color makes for a great heading, and can be refreshing when you feel you have over-used your standard black fonts. Marsala is also a strong accent color and can pair well with a variety of other colors to help your logo and branding stand out more. To use Marsala, just enter the RGB values of 150,79, and 76.

Celebrations

You can’t truly celebrate the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year without getting to celebrate for yourself. Before it was the color of the year, Marsala’s roots date back to 1773 where the color could be found in Italian red wine. You might want to enjoy a glass of Marsala wine when you get that promotion, or finally close that deal you have been working on. For non-drinkers, a little Marsala wine makes a great ingredient in cooking (think Chicken Marsala) – and a special meal prepared for the office could help add to a very colorful celebration.

Home Office Design Tips

Sometimes you get the luxury of working from home, other times it can be a curse. The tips below can assist with creating a workable office that can help you achieve your business goals from home.

1. Location. Choose a location in the home that will allow you enough room to move around with limited distractions. Next to the television might not be the best choice.

2. Pick the right chair. Since you will likely be using your home office often, you should invest in comfortable seating.

3. Organize your office. Clutter can be a distraction and often does not help with motivation. A nice clean and organized space can help with using time efficiently. You can spend less time searching for that file you know you just had ten minutes ago.

4. Light the room. Lighting can affect your mood and your energy level. Make sure you have adequate lighting to brighten the room.
