Ways to Boost Your Work in 2015
Happy New Year from EON!
A new year means a fresh start, and there is no time like the present to set some goals for the next year. Improving your life at work is not about working harder, but making the right changes to stay balanced and focused no matter what the next year throws at you.
Here are some of EON's suggestions for making workplace progress in 2015:
Identify Ten Problems
Look around your work space and think about your daily habits and any problems you encounter. Make a list of ten issues that you want to resolve and take time to think about possible solutions. Be honest with yourself and set realistic goals that you can make small steps to achieve.
Take Stock of your equipment
Have you been making do with a printer that doesn't work correctly or can never find a pen when you need one? Simple issues like these can suck up time and energy that is already at a premium at work. Get rid of any broken equipment and research the products that will best suit your needs- and if you aren't sure, EON account managers are always willing to consult with you on what would work best. Don't forget this also includes software - is it time for an upgrade?
Learn Something New
One of the best ways to improve your career and self-esteem is to learn something new. Choose a subject you find interesting and take a class, or request additional training from work. Over time, you will find many new things to enjoy and increase your value and opportunities.
Focus on Your Health
If you aren't feeling 100%, you can't give 100%. Make sure your work-life balance is in sync by delegating so you don't get overwhelmed, and take breaks when you need them. Don't worry about staying trim as much as staying active, which will add to your health and happiness.
Give Back
Make sure you take time to express gratitude who have helped you over the last year and pay it forward, whether through a charitable donation or other acts of kindness. The rewards from this will last for years to come.
Firehouse Makeover for Northwood, IA
This November, EON worked together with California Casualty to provide a $10,000 makeover for the Northwood Fire Department in Northwood, Iowa as part of the ongoing Work Hard/Play Hard contests from California Casualty. Contest winner Ryan Severson is a devoted volunteer with the 127-year-old fire department, which is proud to run entirely on donations and is staffed by volunteers. The Severson family boasts three generations of firefighting volunteers and entered the contest to help revive the worn firehouse with new furnishings. The Northwood Fire Department has now been updated with vibrant new tables and chairs, a flat screen TV, and kitchen equipment that will help provide an updated and functional space for the local community’s meetings and functions for years to come.

The Work Hard/Play Hard contests from California Casualty will continue to give back to the men and women who serve our communities as emergency first responders in 2015. To find out more about the contest prizes and to enter for your community, go to http://go.calcas.com/harley.
Office Trends to Expect in 2015
As 2014 comes to a close, we take time to make predictions for upcoming office trends for the new year. Will you see these changes in 2015?
INCREASED WORK/LIFE BALANCE
Many experts agree that with more Millennials entering the job market, 2015 will see a shift in the traditional structure of business. More flexibility will be required as younger generations demand a more casual, individualized approach to work. Personal drive will play a greater role in success as workers spend increasingly more time outside the workplace.
TELECOMMUTING
More than ever before, workers in 2015 will spend less time at the office in favor of working from home. The ease of communication by smartphone and laptop will allow workers to complete their tasks without spending as much time or energy in traffic. Driverless cars and more intelligent public transportation are also expected to become more widespread to aid those who still commute.
WOMEN ON THE JOB
With more flexible work options, more women will enter the traditional workplace than previous years and will enjoy more equitable salaries to men than ever before.
DIGITAL COLLABORATION
"Facebook for work" and other means of mass digital collaboration will transform the workplace by allowing employees a greater ease of communication via the internet. Text messaging and forum-style websites will keep businesses running efficiently despite decentralized office models.
LOUNGE FURNITURE
In office furniture trends, the continuing decline in popularity of the cubicle workstation will give rise to more informal shared spaces. These open areas will be characterized by modern, colorful, modular furnishings that can be rearranged for different purposes. Furniture will also start to include a more pronounced tech component, offering more charging ports, wire organization, and audiovisual components.
MORE JOB TURNOVER
More workers will be freelancing or frequently changing jobs than previous years. It will become necessary to spend more time to perfectly match workers to jobs and company culture will play a more important role in choosing candidates. This may cause a skill gap as workers are more likely to require training for new positions.
In short, the workplace of tomorrow will see an increase in efficiency by using new technology to keep workers connected while offering more freedom and flexibility to individuals. Attention to health and comfort in the workplace is increasing and will hopefully give rise to a greater degree of well-being in the office.
